Do I have to buy all my equipment before I start playing?
No. The only thing you need to have is a pair of regulation bowling shoes.
There are sets of bowls at the club for members to borrow until they decide to buy their own. Please note that club bowls and equipment must not be taken off the premises. Club members will happily help you in your decision when deciding what bowls are right for you.
Do I have to pay each time I play?
No. You only pay a small charge for playing in internal and external leagues and when you play in Club Matches. All other bowling on the green or on the short mats is covered by your annual subscription fee.
Is there somebody who can teach me to play?
Yes, we have qualified coaches who can help you.
When is the green open?
Subject to weather conditions and green maintenance, during the summer season – April-September – the green is open from 11.00 a.m. weekdays and 10.30 a.m. weekends. Check the chalk board at the side of the clubhouse door for information regarding green conditions.
When are the short mats open?
There are three mats permanently laid down in the clubhouse from October to early April. These are open for play from 9.00am until 10.00pm. During the summer months there are just two mats to play on, these are only available on a restricted and limited basis dependent upon activity on the outdoor bowling green.
When can I play in matches?
Whenever you want to. When you feel confident enough to put yourself forward for selection you can make yourself available to play by using BowlR, our online computerised system which all club members have access to. Playing in matches is a very good way of learning the etiquette of the game and helps to improve your play.
Do I have to book a rink for a roll-up?
Yes, this can be done remotely from home using the club’s computerised BowlR system. How this works will be explained after you join.
